96pts Vinous

The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Case Vecie seduces with a beguiling and lifted mix of crushed stone, dusty rose and bright cherry. This is dark and velvety, moody in feel yet seductive and pliant, simply harmonious, mixing salty minerals and ripe rich red fruits and spices, hints of mocha and inner violet florals. There’s simply so much going on here. The 2016 tapers off incredibly long and structured. It’s still easy to like today with floral rose and violet tones, along with a bitter twang of balsamic spice. A simply stunning Case Vecie.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red in colour. The nose reveals red and wild berry fruit, floral notes of violet and rose, hints of aromatic herbs and a subtle mineral nuance. On the palate it is enveloping and velvety, supported by a vibrant freshness that lifts the profile. The finish is long, with citrus and savoury notes. With further evolution, more complex nuances of liquorice and earth emerge, along with a pleasantly bitter note on the finish.

Vineyard Notes

Amarone Case Vecie originates from a mountain vineyard at 480 metres above sea level on the Torricelle hills above Verona. The vines are planted among pasture meadows and woodland within the Borago–Galina Special Area of Conservation, a protected forest.

Here the climate is noticeably cooler than in the traditional Valpolicella zone, with temperatures on average about four degrees lower, and harvest takes place roughly three weeks later. The slower ripening cycle, reduced heat stress and the area’s remarkable biodiversity give the Case Vecie grapes a particularly refined and distinctive profile, resulting in an Amarone that is elegant, complex and marked by distinctive balsamic notes.
